This is a picture from her Dr’s appointment – she’s blowing big spit bubbles. This was the first time she did this, it was after crying (because of a shot), so she must have had just the right amount of spittle in her mouth. She makes a “mmmmah” sound, makes them over and over and licks her lips every few times to keep them coming nicely. It’s actually pretty fun to watch and I was lucky to capture it because I haven’t been able to since – good thing I had that crappy Sony in the diaper bag.
Her check up went well, she weighs 23 pounds, is 30 inches tall, has a head circumference of 18 ¼ inches and is in the 75th percentile across the board. To compare, Alison was in the 52nd percentile for weight, the 91st for height and the 98th for head! On an Alison note, her strange proportions make it difficult to clothe her. At 3 ½ she is wearing size 5 shirts but is not quite tall enough for size 5 pants, which come in “slim”, so all of her size 4s are falling off her little butt. The last hat we bought her was a size 8 yrs and up, so good luck to those of you hoping to buy her clothes for her birthday.
Anyway, in addition to being perfectly proportioned everything else is going well with Zuzu. I am told that none of her little oddities are a big deal for now, but may be concerns if they’re still there in a few years. So for now the doctor will just keep an eye on her heart murmur and belly button hernia and we have her pupil checked again in 6 months. Am I forgetting something? Oh yeah, her weird little twin-tooth, that too I guess is fine because it’s not a permanent tooth.
Other than the medical stuff, Zuzu is just a very busy, easy-going little girl. She is not walking yet, but cruises along everything and walks behind anything she can push across the floor. She is starting to stand without holding onto things but is still pretty cautious. She loves reading now – some of her favorites are Goodnight Gorilla, Blue Hat Green Hat, Goodnight Moon, Brown Bear, Hand Hand Fingers Thumb and Charlie Parker Played Be Bop. She also loves to play peek-a-boo and be part of anything that Ali is doing. She is becoming quite silly, which is to be expected in our family and is very cuddly and loves giving hugs, kisses and loves to everyone. It’s still hard to believe she is already a year old. Time is just going crazy fast.
