Let’s just say that things are progressing a little faster than we had hoped. All this time I’ve been so concerned about having a Christmas baby, but I don’t want her to be a NOVEMBER baby! I knew baby had moved into a head down position because for almost a week I’ve been up 3-4 times a night using the bathroom. It should also be noted that all the books say that baby’s movements should slow a little as they become bigger and run out of room. Nobody told this baby however and she is still moving as much as ever and it’s quite painful at times. I joke that I should just always be playing some Ray Charles or James Brown or something, so my “ooh” and “ahh” sounds would just be like I was singing along.
Anyway, back to the appointment. The doctor first checked the heartbeat and said “oh, it’s nice and slow” which made me wonder if that was ok. She said “oh, that usually means they are ready to deliver”. Before I could fully take that information in, she also said that I was dilated to 2! She then went on to say that she thought about us on Thanksgiving and fully expected a phone call that weekend. I told her that was not nice because we’re not ready yet. None of the Grandparents are here yet to take care of Ali, Chris is still in school, and I want to be able to go with Ali to see Santa and go to the Holidazzle Parade.
The doctor reminded me that it is not up to us but that it’s all up to baby. My response was that baby is too little to make these sorts of decisions. She also joked that my water could break at the parade and I could freeze to the curb. Thanks, really I don’t need a good story, an uneventful delivery would be fine with me. She left the room laughing and said “oh, I think there’s a story here”.
Of course, now that I have made such a big deal out of this, baby will probably be a week overdue. I’m scheduled for another ultrasound on Monday, I guess to make sure everything is still ok in there. We’ll keep you posted. In the mean time, the Grandparents better hurry up!
