Just an update: I am already 19 weeks along, almost half way there – I can hardly believe it. Baby and I are doing fine. I have gained three pounds so far and have already started to show. As you can see in the picture, I am much bigger this time, which is kind of exciting for me because I get to look pregnant for longer than I did with Ali. For those of you who do not know, I barely had a tummy at 6 months with her! I don’t even have a 4 months picture from last time to compare this to, because there was nothing to see yet.
Ali sort of knows about the baby now, but really she has no idea what it all will mean. She lifts up my shirt and looks at my belly button and pats my visible tummy and says “baby”. She also drums on it a little too. Surprisingly the baby hasn’t started drumming back yet, because it is absolutely crazy. I detected movements weeks ago, sooner than all the books said you should (even as a second pregnancy). And now the baby moves quite a lot, Chris even felt it for the first time last week and that’s at least a month sooner than he was able to feel Ali. Alison must have been so squished in there behind the tight tummy muscles – I’m pretty sure I’ll never see those again, but it’s worth it. Even at my 18-week check up the doctor said “wow, you have another wild one in here”. My ribs hurt a little just thinking of what is likely to come in the next few months – yikes. At the appointment, by the way, Alison did really well. Daddy couldn’t make it so it was just the two of us and she sat in a chair with a book and watched while I was on the table to listen to the heartbeat. She did gesture for the doctor to leave the room a couple of times. I’m hoping she will become more comfortable with her as the number of doctor visits increase, we’ll see.
Finally, we go in for our ultrasound next week and I can hardly wait!!! Here’s your chance to make your official guess, Boy? or Girl? There is no prize for the winners other than the satisfaction of being right. We’ll let you know.
