During this trip, Alison had her first beach experience. Grandma W, Chris and I took her to one of my favorite beaches not too far from my parent’s house. To get to the water you have to hike through a trail in the woods, Alison insisted on hiking the whole way. It made the trail seem a lot longer than I remembered. When we finally made it to the sand, she knew just what to do with her bucket and shovel. She was only slightly concerned about the sand on her hands – she got over it quickly enough anyway. Sadly it wasn’t quite warm enough for her to take her shoes off and wade into the (extremely cold) water, but she did get to dig in the sand, collect shells, find little crabs and throw rocks into the water. Mommy and Daddy were trying to impress her, or have a contest maybe by skipping rocks, but she liked it better when we threw big rocks that made a big splash. Again, she had to walk by herself the entire way back to the car and didn’t complain once, considering she must have been tired and hungry. What a trooper.
The next day, we went to the Seattle Aquarium with Grandma W and Auntie Laurie. Just so you know, a toddler’s pace on a trail through the woods is very slow, but a toddler’s pace through an aquarium on the other hand is very speedy. I’m pretty sure we did not get our money’s worth. Like with most things we think she will love, she was kind of indifferent. The divers that were in two of the biggest tanks kind of scared her a little, but she did like a little felt board play area and some little wooden character cutouts. Other than that, she was only slightly impressed by a few other things, like these baby salmon swimming in a tank above our heads. I think she would have probably rather just gone to the beach again. Oh well.
While in Seattle we also went out to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, El Puerco Lloron. Above is Daddy and Ali enjoying the excellent food. Alison especially liked the rice but she also ate a bit of a chicken taquito. As you can see, she also had to have her own salsa too - that's our girl. The aquarium was really just an excuse to come here for lunch. Afterward we went to Procopio’s to get some Italian gelato – very yummy. Both of these places are located half way up the stairs to the Pike Place Market from the waterfront (if you’re ever in Seattle). From there it was back to the ferry. We had to get home so Alison could have a nap. Here is a cool picture of her jumping on the boat.
